Hiking and Biking in Kojima

A couple of weeks ago I went to Kojima to bike to the top of Washuzan with my friend. I brought my bike with me on the train and we went from Kojima station all the way to the top of Washuzan. It was a little bit of a tough ride up the mountain, but it was fun.

As we rode up the mountain we kept seeing nice sports cars pass us, and when we got to the top there was a kind of car show in a big parking lot there. We saw lots of cool cars like Ferraris, Honda NSXs, a Corvette, and a few Datsun/Nissan Skyline GTs. It was a nice surprise.

Then we went up to the very top and parked our bikes. We walked down to a nice picnic table and watched the Seto Ohashi and the Inland Sea. It was very beautiful. We stayed until the sun was going down and then went back home. It was a great day!

Cherry blossom viewing party
2019-03-31_11-40-16_IMG_8210.JPG

On Sunday, we gathered at the Asahi River for cherry blossom viewing. We were a little too early this year. There were only a few cherry blossoms on the trees. Last year we were too late, this year we were too early. The weather was also not great. It was windy and a little chilly.

But many NEO students and friends came out to join us. We saw a lot of people that we know, some people walking by our party by chance. We saw some friends that hadn’t seen for a long time. We met some new friends, also.

We enjoyed a lot of good food and drink. We gave up when the sun was going down and it started to get cold.

Thanks for coming out, everybody. We had a great time and look forward to the next event!

Saint Young Men

I don’t usually read manga, but I definitely need to do more Japanese reading practice. I tried to read Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師) and ONE PIECE (ワンピース) before, but the vocabulary and slang were too much for me.  I gave up pretty quickly.

Recently, Ryo introduced me to a manga called Saint Young Men. The English title sounds a bit strange – it’s 聖(セイント)☆おにいさん in Japanese). It’s written and illustrated by Hikaru Nakamura. Put simply, the story is about the religious figures Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha living as roommates in modern Tokyo. They’re on a kind of vacation on Earth, experiencing many ordinary things for the first time – riding on the subway, sightseeing, visiting amusement parks. It’s what we call a “slice of life” story, but with an interesting twist.

I’m a slow reader, but I’m enjoying it so far. Thanks for loaning me your books, Ryo!
