Happy Birthday, America!

今日7月4日はアメリカの誕生日。つまり独立記念日です。
NEOでのネイティブ講師は全員アメリカ人です。
今朝最初に会ったときにHappy Independence Dayと言っておきました。
が、
日本在住が長くなってくると周りにいる人たちが必ずしもアメリカ人とは限らないため、彼らも大々的にお祝いはしなくなりました。

本国では一大イベント。
どこの町でも花火が上がったり家族や友人と集まったりします。
RJはその週末にあわせてBBQを考えていたようですが、梅雨の今、どうせ雨だろうということで諦めたようです。

Ayumiです。
レッスンはお休みでしたが、こまごまとすることがあり、あっという間の1週間でした。

その中で唯一のお楽しみはアメリカから一時帰国している家族とのgetting togetherです。
最近は夜のお出かけができなかったため、楽しみにしていました。

そこの家族には小学生低学年の男の子と就学前の男の子がいます。
上のお兄ちゃんS君は渡米2年が経過し、Preschoolを経て小学校へ行っています。
渡米前は少しNEOへ来てくれていましたが、日本語も順調であった記憶もあり、今回会うと英語もなかなか達者になっていました。
そしてやはり淀みない発音です。

どの子供さんも新しい環境に慣れるのは決して楽ではありません。
でもそのS君は今回の集まりで「ぼく、英語話せるよ」と言ってくれ、そして英語で話しかけると英語で答えてくれました。

よく言われるセリフですが
「何か英語で話してみて！」というリクエストです。
それよりは「XXを英語でどう言うの？」と尋ねてもらうほうが返答がしやすいです。

滞米任期はもう少しあるようです。
今度の私たちのアメリカ里帰りでは現地で会えるかな？！
今以上にこちらもタツキの英語教育を進めて実験せねば！

いや、実におもしろい、のです。

Tatsuki and I have been busy so far in America. On Sunday, I went to a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game with my Dad and two of my brothers. We had excellent seats just behind home plate, but unfortunately the Phillies lost the game 8-0 to the New York Mets.
On Sunday night, Shawn arrived from Boston and we went camping at a local campground that my friend John is the director of. The next day we went "tubing". Tubing means riding a round intertube down a river. I don't have any pictures because I didn't take my camera.
Yesterday we visited my brother Chris's doughnut shop and Shawn left to go back to Boston.
In the evening Nick's mom (my aunt Kathy) and my mom's mom (my grandmom) came to visit us.
Today is my parent's wedding anniversary, so we will go out to dinner.

We went to see Thomas the train on Friday. Tatsuki and I still had some jet lag, but we had enough energy to enjoy riding on Thomas and enjoying the other trains too.

Tatsuki is having fun playing in my parent's yard with his cousins. It doesn't get dark here until around 9pm. There are a lot of fireflies in yard that Tatsuki enjoyed chasing around last night. We grilled up some hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner.
