Takayama and Shirakawago
For Golden Week, I went east to Aichi and Gifu. The most interesting part of the trip was Takayama and Shirakawago, both of which I saw for the first time. The train ride through Gifu was beautiful. I saw lots of low mountains and deep, rocky rivers. In some places, it reminded me of Tokushima.
In Takayama, I walked around the narrow streets of the village and tried some of the local foods, including a million kinds of pickled vegetables. There were a lot of tourists, but it was still a peaceful place.
Shirakawago is a World Heritage Site located near the Japanese Alps. It’s a very old village. Actually, most of the houses had cafes or souvenir shops, and the whole place was very touristy. But the view from above was nice!
