Osafune Sword Museum

Ayumi and I went to the sword museum in Osafune this morning. We got the tickets from our good friend Akemi.

There were many swords and knives on display. Making swords is a very old art, but there are still many people doing it today in Japan. Our friend's friend is a sword maker and one of his swords was on display.

We could watch the craftsmen working outside of the museum.

Different people make the sword, the scabbard (case) and do the engraving.

I use a wooden practice sword in my Aikido training, so I was very interested in seeing swords. There are some swords for sale at the museum. For example, a katana costs about 600,000 yen!!
